The vegan shop

The vegan shop Dr. Pogo in Berlin offers more than 2,000 completely vegan products within a very wide range on 90 m² of retail space. We are certified organic, ensure less waste through a large selection of unpackaged goods and prefer to purchase fair trade and regionally produced products. You are sure to find a suitable vegan option for your culinary idea.

We want our customers and collective members to meet on equal terms in a cosy atmosphere in our shop and feel equally at home.

Unfortunately, due to structural obstacles, we are unable to make the entrance accessible to all. Three steps and a relatively narrow pavement prevent us from installing a permanent ramp with a sufficiently low gradient. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to arrange for the necessary conversion work to be carried out. We do have a mobile ramp that we can set up if required, but it is relatively short and therefore steep.

History

The collective was founded in 2013 after the old Berlin vegan shop ‘Veni, Vidi, Vegi’ closed down, leaving a gap in the landscape. It quickly became clear to us that the only viable option for the project was to form a collective.

During the approximately 1 ¹/² year founding phase, the focus was therefore always on establishing a solid collective organisational form and appropriate structures, preferably without formal hierarchies. We were supported in this by AGBeratung. Our internal contract was drawn up on the basis of the ‘Position Paper for Collective Enterprises’ of the FAU Hamburg.

Over the last 13 years, we have tried out many things, learned from crises and contradictions, and gained a wealth of experience. Some Kollektivis@s have left the collective, but new ones have joined, bringing their ideas and experiences to the collective in a constructive way. Part of Dr. Pogo's history is our loyal customer base, whom we greatly appreciate and who sometimes travel from far away to shop with us.
